How My Style Has Changed Over The Last Five Years

The Prelude

If you would’ve asked young me if I ever thought my style would change in the future I would have told you no without hesitation. Teenage/early young adult me loved tight clothing, low cut necklines, and showing off my body. This version of me also had different values, a different perspective on life, and of course the immaturity that we all experience during that era. As I got older my values, perspective, and levels of maturity began to change and so did my style. It felt a bit strange at first, but I quickly learned that who we are and how we dress ourselves are synonymous. This is what helped me realize that changing your style is healthy.

Re-evaluating my style is now something that I do frequently and it’s a healthy habit that I like to instill in my clients as well. Now I’m passing the torch to you. Tap into the article below to see how my style has changed and if you feel led to do so, take this information and start altering/reinventing your own style.

How My Style Has Changed Over The Last Five Years

I love classic clothing…a lot!

Never in million years did I think my style would ever evolve into a classic one. I always associated classic styles with older people who were outdated. Well here’s an interesting fact.. older people aren’t the only people who wear classic clothing and this aesthetic is definitely not outdated. In fact, dressing in a classic manner can be as interesting and stylish as you want it to be!

I’m starting to add more color!

Everyone goes through their neutral phase and I am no exception. I remember when I took a deep dive into my wardrobe last year and realized that I wear way too many neutrals. After realizing that, the plan to start incorporating more color into my wardrobe made its way to the top of my list. Now when I shop I look at all of my color options and try to buy pieces that are subtle, yet eye catching - in other words dark or monotone colors. I’ve also been more intentional about purchasing the right colors for my skin tone especially since I’m planning to spend more time on camera and speaking at virtual events.

I love covering up a lot?

Another mind blowing thing that I have grown to love is covering up. Like I stated in the prelude, in the past I used to love tight clothing and showing off my body. I still enjoy highlighting my curves, but in a more tasteful and mature way. I’ve also developed a new love for layering my clothes - even in the spring and summer! As time continues to pass, covering up is becoming more of an art form to me. The thing that I enjoy most about it is pushing my creativity to the limits and seeing how classy I can make my outfits.

I’ve accepted that I’m not a heel woman.

In the past I used to feel like I was weird for not liking heels so I bought myself a few pairs to get comfortable and more acquainted with them. Well I’m here to tell you that I still don’t like them. In fact, I would much rather wear a boot or a stylish pair of flats. Nevertheless, now that I’ve matured and have more experience in the fashion world, I’ve learned that it’s okay to not like or wear heels (they don’t make you any less of a woman). I’ve also considered that I may not have found the right pair of heels for myself. So I’m looking forward to broadening my horizons by experimenting with low, almost non existent heels. Although, I can’t make any promises that they’ll become a staple in my wardrobe.

I despise anything that looks cheap!

Back in the day I could care less about if my clothing looked cheap as long as I thought it was stylish. Now I gag at the sight of anything that looks cheap. These days quality means the world to me because I get to keep my clothing longer, I look and feel important, and the quality material helps me create high quality outfits - which I’m absolutely obsessed with! Granted, obtaining such clothing usually costs me a bit more and makes my online shopping trips take a little longer, but overall it’s worth it for my wardrobe!
